Building on Makkah’s revered status and to highlight the virtue of worship within the Haram boundaries, the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites has launched, for the second consecutive year, the campaign “All of Makkah is a Sanctuary.” The initiative aims to raise awareness of the Haram boundaries and emphasize the multiplied reward for acts of worship within them, based on religious evidence confirming that the entire Haram area falls under the designation of Al-Masjid Al-Haram, not the mosque alone.
Scholars supporting this interpretation reference several evidences, including the verse:
"Glory be to Him who took His servant by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haram" [Al-Isra:1], noting that the Prophet PBUH’s night journey began from Umm Hani’s house or another location, according to different narrations, yet it remained within the Haram, indicating that the term “Al-Masjid Al-Haram” encompasses the entire sanctuary. Similarly, verses such as “For them therein is fruit, and for them whatever they ask [for], peace, a word from a Merciful Lord” and “And between them was a wall with a gate; within it was mercy, but on the outside was punishment” [Al-Hadid:13] also affirm that the designation of Al-Masjid Al-Haram applies to the entire Haram.
Based on this understanding, the campaign seeks to educate Makkah residents and visitors that the virtue of praying within Haram boundaries is equivalent to 100,000 prayers, a reward encompassing all mosques and sites within its blessed limits. The campaign highlights several key mosques within the Haram, including:
Aisha Al-Rajhi Mosque – the third largest mosque in the Kingdom.
Imam Al-Da’wah Mosque in Al-Awali District.
Al-Muhajireen Mosque in Al-Shawqiyah District.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz Mosque in Al-Shishah Square.
Al-Balad Al-Ameen Mosque and Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sarie Mosque in Al-Batha District.
The campaign also introduces other mosques within the Haram boundaries, such as Princess Fahdah Al-Sudairi Mosque in Al-Naseem District, King Abdulaziz Mosque in Al-Ma’abidah District, and Sheikh Abdul Qadir Ahmed Nasir Mosque in Al-Iskan District, encouraging residents and visitors to pray there and benefit from their spiritual merit.
The campaign runs throughout Ramadan and includes guidance maps to identify the Haram boundaries and its mosques, as well as digital content designed to raise awareness of Makkah’s status and virtues. Multiple partners and organizations in the Holy City collaborate to ensure the campaign reaches a wide audience, facilitating a more meaningful and accessible worship experience for Makkah residents and pilgrims alike.
